Rug

Rug

late 19th-early 20th century

While this rug is not a prayer rug, its sprouting leaves and flowers evoke a garden, a metaphor for Paradise. Probably intended for use in a private home, the central field is a stylized pool with a flowering stalk or tree growing from above and below, surrounded by vines.
