American, born Ireland, 1703-1789

A rare form in American silver, punch bowls were more commonly created in ceramic. A preeminent silversmith in Philadelphia, Syng created the inkstand from which the Declaration of Independence was signed. The bowl bears the engraved arms of Bartram and “J’Advance.”
