Teapot

Teapot

ca. 1760-1764

Samuel Casey

American, 1724 - ca. 1773/9

This teapot is a hybrid of styles. The double-bellied or inverted pear shape also appears in sugar bowls and coffeepots in the rococo style, while the foliate strapwork and crosshatched diaper pattern on the pot’s shoulder are surface decoration of an earlier baroque style, ca. 1690–1730.
