William Forbes

American, active 1826 - 1863/64

The multi-paneled form of this pitcher derives from medieval Gothic architecture. Gothic revival was one of the most popular styles for American silverware between 1840 and 1860. Ball Black & Co. was the first American firm to exhibit silver at an international exhibition, the London Crystal Palace World's Fair in 1851.
