Provenance: According to a hand-written label on backing board, the painting was in the family of one James Hardan; consigned by an unidentified source to [Knoedler Galleries, New York, stock no. S3320, Oct. 30, 1957 - Jan. 1967]; installed in home of E. Coe Kerr, Jr., President of Knoedler Gallery, Carlton House, New York, 1967 - Nov. 20, 1968; officially removed from inventory and released to E. Coe Kerr, Jan. 1969, probably upon the establishment of Coe Kerr Gallery, New York; to Mrs. E. Coe Kerr, Jr., New York, probably by bequest upon her husband’s death in 1973, at least 1980; {Mrs. George Arden}; sold [Christies, New York, American Paintings from the Collection of Mrs. George Arden, Part I, May 22, 1991, sale no. 7304, lot no. 197]; sold to [American Illustrators Gallery, New York], 1991; [A.
