Fishing Camp-Lake Pomo

1924

Edward S. Curtis

American, 1868-1952

Encouraged by President Theodore Roosevelt and funded by the mogul J. Pierpoint Morgan, Curtis commenced publication of THE NORTH AMERICAN INDIAN in 1906. The twentieth and last volume appeared in 1930. Curtis wanted his images to possess both "artitic treatment" and historic recreations of life before the age of "Indian Reservations." They are period pieces evoking situations that were no longer true.
