A Chief's Daughter

Date1912
Label TextLarge cattail mats cover the walls and the baskets in the foreground reveal the unique style of Skokomish basketry designs. Is the young woman in the fur robe actually a chief's daughter? What is her name? These are questions that the photographer does not answer but he knowingly captures elements that reveal her standing: accomplished basketmaking skills and a royal cloak.
