By the Pool-Tule River Reservation
Date1924
Label TextThis depiction of baskets, reeds, and flowing water is a charming and artful arrangement of different textures and forms. Curtis made and distributed it as a visual document for scholars of Navtive American culture, but he clearly wanted his composition to have artistic merit as a still life. His photograph reflects the interests of the Aesthetic Movement, and in particular, the idealizing, narrative aims of Pictorialist photography.
