Kenneth Callahan

American, born 1905, Spokane, Washington; died 1986, Seattle, Washington

Callahan once said that he was trying to evolve a style of his own, that was out of the region where he had been born and which he loved above all other parts of the world. Mountains grounded Callahan’s art thoroughly in place, providing the kind of authentic expression that he sought, that could come only from his region—the Pacific Northwest—and his time.
