Nobleman and Reader with Attendants

Nobleman and Reader with Attendants

probably 16th century

This nobleman reclining by a pool is a representative of his times. His dress, turban and dagger identify him as Mughal in surroundings that evoke Persian style. References to China are also present, however, in the paper book held by the reader and in the blue-and-white ceramic bowl.
