Untitled (Gang drawing)

1983

Alan Saret

American, born 1944

Alan Saret's Gang Drawing series are deceptive in their simplicity and disguise the process of their making-the artist used only a fistful of colored pencils and applied marks to the surface of the paper. The effect is one that intensifies the relationship between line and volume, whereby the line takes on a sculptural quality. This seemingly spontaneous application of pencils on paper produces an illusion of space within the one-dimensional surface.
