A Man in a High Cap

A Man in a High Cap

1630

Rembrandt van Rijn

Dutch, 1606-1669

Beginning in the 1630s, Rembrandt used costumes kept in his studio to dramatize images. Here a tall hat transforms an elderly man (often identified as Rembrandt's father, though without evidence) into a dignified patriarch.
