Falling Star
1995
Spheres captured in a net are loosely defined by the artist as objects that "grow into being." Lanny Bergner reworks man-made materials to quote from the natural world, and wrote about his process: "Twisted wire is made to look like thorns, chicken feet, or flower stocks. Frayed and gathered screen is made to look like nesting material, decaying carcasses or flowing water. Bound screen resembles eggs, buds or berries. In general terms my work is about materials, process and the transformation that takes place when I combine the two."
