Jingdezhen ware

early 12th century

The light bluish-toned glaze fills in the carved swirling petals. The white body has a sugary texture owing to the unique "porcelain stone" materials. Together they make the decoration distinct, and at the same time create a pleasing contrast between the bowl's overall tranquil quality and the floral design's sense of freehand motion.
