Brushholder
Date18th century
Maker
Chinese
Label TextWhile the production of glass has often been compared to that of ceramics, Chinese glassmakers during the Qing period spent considerable effort in carving, as seen in the red dragons on this brushholder. The frosted white ground recalls translucent white jade, and may have anticipated the development of "Peking glass," which can easily be mistaken for jade.
