Snuff bottle with baman jinbao (Barbarians Bearing Tribute)

1736-1795

The Qianlong emperor often gave snuff bottles to favored officials, both foreign and Chinese. This bottle was made by imperial craftsmen who mastered European enameling techniques by studying the enameled watches that Jesuit missionaries presented to court as gifts.
