Bowl
Dateca. 1728
Label TextOne can imagine that the asymmetrical designs framing scenes of stags, hunting dogs, and fierce falcon heads on this bowl would have found favor during the emergence of rococo. There are, however, only about ten or so recorded Meissen works in this style. Adapted from engravings of about 100 years earlier by Johann Schmischeck (1585-1650), they may have seemed too eccentric during this early period of transition from late baroque to rococo in Germany.
