Kenneth Callahan

American, born 1905, Spokane, Washington; died 1986, Seattle, Washington

Callahan coupled images of mountains with his thoughts on the destiny of humanity in part because he knew and had painted the miners and lumbermen whose work had altered them, and he imagined the ignoble deeds of history that were buried within them. In his imagination, mountains were infused with the spirits of the world.
