Date1962
Label TextKelly was a prominent member of the Northwest avant-garde, working in the Portland area alongside artists such as Carl and Hilda Morris, and Louis Bunce. Starting out as a painter in the Abstract Expressionist mode, he later turned to sculpture to explore gesture, texture, and space in three dimensions. The scalloped forms in this work suggest brushstrokes in space and the painted surfaces further connect painting and sculpture.
