Pillow

Date960-1127
Label TextFirst appeared in the Sui dynasty (581-618) ceramic pillows from the 9th to the 13th centuries offered a variety in shape, motif and decorative techniques. These objects were used as head rests, to disrupt malicious spirits, as arm and wrist rests during medical procedures, and in funerary arrangements. The design-particularly the light, elegant tones and the lozenge pattern-makes this a unique example among Chinese ceramic pillows.
