Saint Luke
late 15th century
Saint Luke sits at a desk writing his Gospel, while his symbol, the bull, waits like a faithful dog. The saint's garments were created using a time-consuming and expensive method that required great skill, in which the brocade pattern was molded in wax, applied to the figure and gilded.
