The blossoms and fruits were outlined and painted with opaque white pigment, on which enamels were then applied and "washed away" to achieve satisfying tonal gradations. The body is eggshell-thin and has a dark pink on the exterior, as if to flaunt the pink indulgence. This so-called ruby-back ware could have up to seven elaborate borders.
