Silversmith Robert Sanderson American, born England, ca. 1608 - 1693
Label TextThe history of silver in the North American colonies begins with the earliest silversmith partnership formed by John Hull and Robert Sanderson, Sr. Their shop carried rings, whistles, textiles, and tools as well as their silver wares. Hull and Sanderson were appointed mint masters in 1652 when the Massachusetts Colony established a mint for coining money. They purchased silver ingots and plate for the mint from New Englanders active in the Caribbean trade.
