Jingdezhen ware

Jingdezhen ware

1723-35

The yellow wares, as well as the aubergine bowl (44.143), require a second firing at a lower tem- perature to fuse the enamels to the transparent porcelain glaze beneath. They distinctly reflect the imperial taste for exquisite design and potting. The bowl's white interior-yellow exterior design indicates its use by a first-rank concubine as specified in the Regulations of the Palace of the Qing dynasty. The dragon-and-phoenix incised on the aubergine bowl is a decorative subject for imperial marriages.
