Date17th century
Label TextEarly gold thread was usually a silver wire covered with a thin gold coating (gilded), which could be drawn out to any thickness and still retain its gold covering. For this embroidery, the gold threads were hammered flat, wound around a silk core, and couched to a linen ground.
