Camel and bird

18th -19th century

Representations of the camel in all sculptural materials-ceramic, wood, stone and jade-have traditionally been associated with the Tang, a time of great exchange with Central Asia (see Merchant holding wine skin vessel). Subsequently, this exotic animal became a fairly common form in the jade carvers' repertoire.
