Label TextFashioned for battle, this shield protected the wearer from injury. Naiza Khan’s corset, also located in this gallery, was created during another time of conflict: when the United States intervened in Afghanistan, causing an exodus of 1.5 million refugees to Pakistan and an increase in weapons on Karachi’s streets. Both the corset and the shield were thus fashioned in response to militarization.
