Brush rest in form of a mountain

Brush rest in form of a mountain

18th - 19th century

Carved in the form of a mountain, this smoky green brush rest provides two surfaces between three rocky peaks for holding writing brushes. Such objects were one of the common items found in the traditional scholar's studio. The wish for longevity and affluence is expressed in the depiction of pine trees, deer and crane.
