Label TextTraditionally consisting of a patchwork of recycled textiles, a Buddhist priest’s overrobe—called kesa in Japanese after the Sanskrit word kashaya—distinguishes the ecclesiast from members of the lay community. The woven silk was cut up and reconfigured into a standard-sized rectangle consisting of columns surrounded by a border.
