Tsuji Kako

Japanese, 1870 - 1931

Toyotomi Hideyoshi (1537–1598), the military leader who reunified war-torn Japan in 1591, is known for his fondness for cherry blossoms. In the right screen here, he is dressed in imperial court robes and leans against a large cherry tree, while the courtier in the left screen walks toward him carrying a bunch of cherry branches.
