Journey

1943

Morris Graves

born Fox Valley, Oregon, 1910; died Loleta, California, 2001

The chalice, the vessel by which the divine spirit is symbolically transferred from one to another, became Graves’ symbol of his spiritual journey and transformation. In his paintings, the landscape of the journey is often rough and bleak.
