Rembrandt uses free, bold lines to express the force of Christ's anger and the hurried dispersal of men who had been misusing the temple for their own corrupt purposes. The vigorous spontaneity, as well as the artist's light touch in the background, recall Dürer's discovery of the infinite variety available in the etching medium.
