Rembrandt van Rijn

Dutch, 1606-1669

Rembrandt dramatized the quiet Dutch countryside by adding a ruined tower at the apex of a small rise. He exercised this artistic license in the studio, working from drawings that he made outdoors, using drypoint accents to deepen the shadows.
