Footed dish
Date18th century
Maker
Chinese
Label TextThis dish’s soft blue glaze resonates with the past by alluding to Song dynasty (960–1279) imperial stoneware, like that commissioned by the artist-collector Emperor Huizong (reigned 1100–25). The Qing dynasty’s imperial collection held rare ceramics from the Song and Ming dynasties. Perhaps with Huizong’s achievements in mind, the Qianlong emperor ordered new creations reviving earlier styles and techniques—to honor them and to demonstrate his own reign’s ceramic achievements.
