Sir John Herschel
1890
Herschel was a scientist who became a key innovator in the development of photography. He shared his discoveries with Mrs. Cameron even before she first took up the camera in 1863 and proved herself to be one of the finest portraitists of the Victorian era. As she wrote, 'When I have such men before my camera, my whole soul has endeavored to do its duty towards them, in recording faithfully the greatness of the inner, as well as the features of the outer man.'
