Kawai Kanjiro

Japanese, 1890 - 1966

Kawai Kanjiro was a close associate of Yanagi’s and an early member of the Mingei movement. Mostly working with ceramics, he emphasized some of the core components of Mingei theory: simple designs and functionality of the work.
