Calmness of Spring Light

Calmness of Spring Light

ca. 1920

Takeuchi Seiho

Japanese, 1864 - 1942

Takeuchi Seiho achieved success with Western-influenced innovations in Japanese painting. He trained in Europe and developed the practice of sketching from real life. This painting resulted from his trips to China in 1920 and 1921. When he observed ordinary scenes-houses, people, the simple garments worn everyday-from new perspectives, he was stunned by the harmony of human life in nature.
