Gathering of Chinese Women

The exact theme of this work is unclear; however, the reverential postures of the bowing women and the children looking up adoringly suggest a scene of religious devotion directed at whatever might have been represented in a now-lost scroll on the right. Kakô's close attention to textile patterns, revealed in the intricate rendering of brocade, echoes similar treatment of fabrics in Buddhist painting.
