Louise Lawler

American; b. 1947, Bronxville, USA

Louise Lawler's conceptual artwork explores the way art is presented, collected, and appreciated. This image shows the home of Virginia and Bagley Wright, Seattle collectors and art patrons. Modern and contemporary works of art are displayed in the home along with Asian and European antiques, as well as personal touches like the family photographs in the background. Lawler's work presents a kind of portrait of the Wrights, without ever referencing them in name or image, by showing their home and the objects of their passionate collecting.

Lawler's title is ironic: the artists are well known (Jasper Johns, James Rosenquist, and Cy Twombly), as are the collectors.
