In 1915, Cunningham married Roi Partridge, the figure in these two photographs (88.12 & 88.7). Imogen had managed her portrait studio for five years by this time, and alongside the more formal portraits produced for her clients, she also photographed subjects that enabled her to explore her creativity and self- expression. These two portraits of Roi are a prime example, and are part of a larger body of photographs she took of him on Mount Rainier, scenes considered provocative at the time.
