Two mandarin ducks among lotus plants

Two mandarin ducks among lotus plants

18th - 19th century

Mandarin ducks, which mate for life, are frequently depicted in Chinese art as symbols for a long and happy marriage. This loving portrayal of a pair of ducks holding the same stalk of lotus would be an appropriate wedding gift for newlyweds or an elderly couple celebrating many happy returns.
