In the Great Hall

Date1990
Maker Jeffry Mitchell American, born 1958
Label TextAsked about sources of influence for this hall, Jeffry Mitchell remembers "the fictitious French paper architect Boullee, an Ensor etching of a cathedral interior with a suspended basket of burning corpses, and the famous painting of Charles Wilson Peale pulling a curtain back to reveal a natural history museum." This watercolor was part of his planning for an installation in 1990 that emulated "the great hall in my mind. I always love architectural drawings and plans and the posture of architecture- arrogant-genius-macho-utopian-gloriously flawed."
