Standing Shakyamuni at Birth

Label TextThe infant Shakyamuni points to the sky with one arm and downward with the other. His gown—commonly worn by small children in China—is incised with cloud-like designs. Immediately after his miraculous birth, the child stood up and advanced seven steps. Pointing towards heaven and earth, he declared, “I am the highest one in the world—this is my last existence.”
