Label TextWith a short neck and egg-shaped body covered in rope markings, this jar is typical of earthenware vessels excavated from the area of Goseong. Goseong was once the capital city of the ancient Sogaya Kingdom, a small state within the Gaya Confederacy. The greenish-yellow color on its neck and shoulders is natural ash glaze, the result of ash having gathered there in a wood-fired environment. The vessel’s blue-gray body is revealed where the ash glaze burned off completely during firing.
