Barney is known for her candid photographs of upper-class family and friends, and this photo invites further scrutiny about the relationship between the two women. It shows the artist and her sister, a frequent subject, and instinctively prompts speculation on the power dynamics between the two, their shared facial features, and subtleties of age difference.
