Krishna receiving Radha
early 18th century
The courageous Radha arrives at her lover’s home on a dark and stormy night. In the landscape peacocks, monkeys and an elephant can be seen, with bolts of lightning flashing in the clouds. Krishna, an avatar of Vishnu, was a frequent subject of the various North Indian Rajasthani schools of painting, in which Hindu religious themes were represented in bold compositions and vibrant colors.
