Crucifix

Dateca. 1200
Label TextThe crown, the open eyes, and the erect posture all express Christ's triumph over death. In the following centuries this victorious image would be replaced by a suffering, human Christ. The holes indicate that the crucifix was mounted, probably on a larger processional or altar cross.
