Yves Marie
1974
David Hockney, a British artist who has lived in Los Angeles since 1964, has focused on three categories of subject matter: swimming pools, landscapes, and portraits of family and friends. He has spoken of making portraits as "finding" the true character of the sitter and translating it onto paper or canvas. Yves Marie typifies Hockney's portraiture by focusing on details of the figure while treating the rest of the space only sketchily. He has captured the subject in a moment of introspection, giving us a window into this person's private self.
