Decorator Jacques Sicard French (active in the United States), 1865 - 1923

Label TextJacques Sicard was famous for his metallic-luster decoration, which was labor-intensive, costly to produce and created in utmost secrecy. Known as Sicardo Ware, the objects were rare in their day, and priced as high as $1,000. Weller Pottery produced his ware until 1907, when Sicard returned to France. This plate, decorated with a daisy motif, is prized for the clarity of its design, its strong iridescent color, and because it is hand-thrown, not molded.
