First Seed into Last Harvest

Date1943
Maker Kenneth Callahan American, born 1905, Spokane, Washington; died 1986, Seattle, Washington
Label TextWe reap what we have sown: allegories such as this one reveal Callahan’s deep knowledge of sacred texts and the history of art. Whereas Tobey and Graves found their wartime symbols in their close observation of the world around them, Callahan looked to the mountain landscape of the Northwest to find means to amplify the lessons of history and biblical scripture that resided in his inquiring mind.
